Funding conditions
New Funding Conditions Starting 01.01.2024
When publishing a scientific article in an Open Access journal, you will often be asked to pay an article processing charge.
In order to apply for funding from the University Library's Publication Fund, the following conditions must be met:
- The corresponding author responsible for paying the article processing charge ("corresponding author") is a member of Clausthal University of Technology. The affiliation to the university is clearly visible in the article.
- The journal is a genuine Open Access journal, i.e. articles in this journal are freely accessible in full and immediately upon publication under a Creative Commons license. Hybrid journals are excluded from funding.
- Quality assurance procedures recognized in the respective subject are applied by the journal, such as peer review. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) offers an opportunity to check this criterion.
- If the processing fee including VAT exceeds the amount of €2000, the remaining amount must be paid from the institute's funds/other funds.
- There is no alternative funding option for the responsible member of TU Clausthal. This applies in particular to published results from third-party funded research.
More Information:
- If the total cost of the article exceeds the maximum funding limit of €2000, a discount can be requested from the publishers. We will be happy to provide you with a letter confirming the funding conditions.
- In addition to hybrid open access journals, the funding of articles in mirror journals is also excluded, even if they are listed in the DOAJ. Mirror journals are open access offshoots of existing closed access journals with similar names and therefore represent a form of hybrid journal.
- It is desirable to submit the article in the pre-print version on the publication server. If the journal communicates restrictions here, we will be happy to comply with them.
- The acknowledgements should contain a reference to the support from the publication fund. An example wording would be: "We acknowledge financial support by the Open Access Publishing Fund of Clausthal University of Technology."
- The regulations on the rules for safeguarding good scientific practice (document only available in German) must be observed, in particular §7 and Annex 1.
- We reserve the right to refuse funding for more than 2 publications per calendar year and first author. In disputed cases, the responsible Senate Commission can be called upon.
The Regulations on the Rules for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice and Procedures in the Event of Suspected Scientific Misconduct for the Clausthal University of Technology must be observed, in particular §7 Scientific Publications and Appendix 1. (Document only available in German language.)
